Psychological Risks of Abortion

Many women report having depression and a profound sense of loss and grief after an abortion. What seemed like an easy solution at first becomes a source of regret, guilt, shame and sometimes anger.

Women with a recent induced abortion are at increased risk for suicide, especially young women aged below 25 years.
Teenagers who abort are six times more likely to attempt suicide than teens who have not had an abortion.

Compared to women who gave birth, women who aborted were 65% more likely to be at risk of long-term clinical depression.
